As a family who suffers with severe cat allergies and asthma, we are happy to report that we have never experienced any terrible allergy symptoms since owning this breed!

My experience with owning and caring for the Siberian breed has been life-changing and I have enjoyed being able to bless so many other families who suffer from cat allergies.

For almost 95% of people with severe allergies to cats, the Siberian breed has the lowest levels of FEL-D1. This protein is produced by cats through their saliva, which they then spread through their fur when they clean themselves. This is what causes allergies for people who are allergic to cats.

If you suspect you are allergic to cats we suggest first starting with a fur sample.

We can send you a fur sample with instructions on how to use it. Please send the $5 payment and allow 1-7 days for us to send it out :

Fur samples:

Testing is most accurate when fur from the mom and dad of the kitten is used, since Siberian allergen levels vary greatly. During late pregnancy and nursing, allergen levels in fur often rise.

It is possible to get wrong reactions when testing kittens fur, since many people react to kittens when they do not react to adult Siberians. Kittens nursing can trigger milk and albumin allergies. Dust from the litter box is a common problem. It is common for kittens to play in the litter box, causing the fur to become covered in dust and allergens.

Fur samples will be sent in a zip-lock bag with instructions on how to test the fur. It's best to test the sample 1-3 times each day, washing your face gently between each trial, or doing it on different days. This should help you to determine whether or not you may experience any allergic reactions.

The following disclaimer applies: Feline allergens are capable of causing serious or fatal reactions. Information provided here is not intended to replace medical advice. Before fur testing, visiting a cattery, or purchasing a Siberian, we recommend discussing your allergies with a doctor.

  • If you have a reaction, test in a room that is easy to clean.
  • As fur persists as an allergen, don't bring it into your bedroom.
  • Before testing fur, consult your doctor.
  • If you experience a reaction, keep your medications on hand.
  • Prednisone and antihistamines may mask reactions.

Saliva Testing:

We also can offer FEL-D1 saliva testing, which is optional and additional cost.

If you suffer with extreme cat allergies we recommend testing the fur first and if their are reactions then doing this option with our lab is best to ensure the kitten produces the lowest level for you.

This test is can be done once your kitten is between 12-14 weeks old.

As a result of our previous kitten tests, we produced kittens with very low levels, however, we cannot guarantee any level since each kitten will produce a different level.

The cost of each test is $525 per kitten, which is done by our lab, KittenTesting

In the event that your kitten produces levels that are too high, you would then need to retest on a different kitten.
